Bellingham's Hub for Social Change

Welcome to the most active peace community in the Northwest! On October 9, 2006, Bellingham became the first city in the state of Washington to pass a Troops Home! Resolution. Written by community leaders and local parents of Iraq Veterans, the resolution calls on the city council to urge the US Congress to immediately commence a withdrawal of troops from Iraq. It also calls for no permanent US bases in Iraq and for US reparations to be given to the Iraqi people to rebuild infrastructure and assist with humanitarian needs as outlined in the fourth Geneva Convention. Bellingham is home to the longest-running weekly vigil in the nation. Since 1966, the peace community has stood in front of our federal building from 4-5:00pm every Friday afternoon. Whatcom Peace & Justice Center serves this community by providing educational programming, leadership on legislative advocacy, and opportunities to resist injustice through public protest, writing, media reform, & organizing. Since opening in 2002, our Center has become a voice at the table of community stakeholders and policymakers, bringing the realities of U.S. foreign policy into the local sphere.
Our important work is supported by local businesses, faith congregations, grassroots foundations, and over 600 individuals. The Center is truly a manifestation of community vision, but we can and must do more! Contact us to volunteer. Donate by mail or use the above donation button.

Check out our Resources, Calendar, Programs, and Actions to get informed and involved.

It is our mission to create an active, inclusive, community voice for peace and social justice in Whatcom County through partnerships with local community and religious organizations, education on alternatives to violence and war, and actions to promote lasting peace and justice at home and worldwide.
